MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT

In 1970 Cladan Corporation started developing custom ink and binders in support of a variety of industry applications.  Mr. Bim Wallace, the company founder developed and refined his own ink vehicles and milling processes. Many experiments with binders were conducted and binder formulas were developed that are still in use today.

Today Cladan maintains equipment for ink and binder making and makes most of the inks required for internal use.

Cladan’s custom materials development capabilities assure compatibility between our inks, binders, and our process equipment such as casters, printers, and cutters.

PROCESS DEVELOPMENT

Cladan Corp Typical parts produced using processes developed by Cladan Corporation

One of the unique strengths of Cladan Corporation is it's combination of capabilities in ceramic materials, ceramic tape binders, conductive inks, and custom equipment development.  This combination leads to an industry-leading ability to create and refine the entire production process for ceramic-based electronic components.

Cladan Corporation has developed processes for high volume production of:

  •     Ceramic capacitors

  •     Multi-chip modules

  •     Microwave filters

  •     Ultracapacitors

  •     Lithium Ion Batteries

  •     Fuel Cells

Areas of technical expertise:

  •     Production of thickness-controlled tapes containing dispersed materials for electrodes used in the fuel cells, ultracapacitors and batteries

  •     Formulation of metal-containing printable inks for co-fired ceramic devices

  •     Formulation of binders

  •     Ceramic batching and mixing

  •     Tape casting facilities for thickness up to 12 mils

  •     High shear compaction tape forming equipment for thicknesses up to 200 mils

  •     Ceramic sheet lamination equipment and dies

  •     Electrode / conductor printing equipment

  •     Ceramic cutting processes including slitting, scoring and saw cutting
